Virginia Harris

Virginia L. Harris, 89, passed away on Sunday, January 15, 2017.She was born on October 17, 1927, in Wood River, Illinois, the daughter of Cecil and Vera Blankenship.She married Donald R. Harris in October 1945, at the 1^st Baptist Church in Wood River.  He preceded her in death on August 31, 1990.Virginia worked as an Optometrist Assistant for over 20 years.  Virginia lived a long, active and full life.  She loved her church, family, friends and pets, especially her cats.  She enjoyed shopping and music.  She learned to play the piano as a young girl and played as church organist for over 42 years.  Throughout the years, she was involved in many church activities and boards.She is Survived by a son, Tracy Harris (Susan); daughter, Jeanene Harris (Bruce Colbeck); grandchildren, Ryan Lawton (Anita), Jennie Harris, other great grandchildren; and long-time friend Richard Hudson. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a daughter Kimberly Lawton.  Visitation will be at 9 am Thursday January 19, 2017, until time of funeral service at 11 am at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.Memorials may be given to 1^st Baptist Church of Bethalto, Madison The 5A’s Animal Shelter or a charity of your choice.Online condolences can be given at www.eliaskallalandschaaf.com.
