Virginia Hedges, 92, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 28, 2019 at Robings Manor in Brighton.
Born July 5, 1926 in Wood River, she was the daughter of George and Gertrude (Pearce) Melow.
After raising her family, Virginia worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Wood River Township Hospital and VIP Manor in Wood River. She was a longtime member of Whitelaw Av Baptist Church, loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to so many. She will be greatly missed.
She married Osborne "Curly" Lemon Hedges in St. Charles, MO. He died December 12, 1996.
Surviving are her four children, Sharon Lee (Bill) Komnick of Bunker Hill, Gary Wayne (Barbara Carol) Hedges of Winchester, TN, William Randy (Rosalie) Hedges of Phoenix, AZ and Cheryl Ann Mertzlufft nee, Hedges) of Burnt Hills, NY; seven grandchildren, Teresa Ann, Scott Allen, Jeffery Dell, Kimberly Dawn, Christopher Andrew, Mark Allen, and Meridith Ann; 11 great grandchildren (one deceased); six great grandchildren.
Her parents; husband; brother,Elvir Melow and sister, Darlene Tuscan preceded in death.
Visitation will be from 9 am until time of service at 11 am, Saturday, February 2 at Marks Mortuary in Wood River. Rev. Steve Disney will officiate.
Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
