Virginia “Ginny” Porter, 90, died at 2:55 a.m. Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at the Methodist Village in Godfrey. Born May 23, 1928 in Godfrey, she was the daughter of Joseph J. and Gladys (Bockstruck) Ebbert Sr. She worked as a secretary at Peavey Company until she married and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Alton. On October 10, 1970 she married Dale Porter in Alton. He preceded her in death on December 28, 1985. Surviving are three nieces, Jenny Frazier of Marble Hill, MO, Nancy Ebbert of Quincy, IL, and Sandra James of Lake Arrowhead, CA, two nephews, Craig James of Lake Arrowhead, CA and Roger James of Wichita Falls, TX, and a step-niece, Barb Anderson of Santa Barbara, CA. Also surviving is a step-son, Paul Porter of St. Louis, MO, a step-granddaughter, Ellen Porter of Chicago, a sister-in-law, Marolyn Ebbert of Godfrey and cousins, Joanne Myer of Wentzville, MO and Richard “Dick” Ebbert of Mexico, MO. Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a step-daughter, Cathy Alexander, a nephew, Arthur James, two brothers, Walter and Joseph Ebbert and a sister, Dorothy James. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until time of memorial service at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, July 26, 2018 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Reverend Janet Riley will officiate. Private burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.
