Virginia Wieland

Jerseyville |

Virginia (Ginny) Irene Wieland, 86, died at 7:30 a.m., December 11, 2018, at her home under the care of BJC North Hospice.

She was born April 3, 1932 to James and Irene Robertson in Helena, Montana. She graduated from Fairfield High School, Fairfield, Iowa, and then attended the Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago, Illinois, graduating in the spring of 1954. While in nursing school she met Clyde Lee Wieland, whom she wed on September 5, 1954. They were happily married for 61 years until Clyde's death in October of 2015.

Virginia and her family attended the First Presbyterian Church in Jerseyville where she participated in the Prayer Shawl ministry, and was a choir member. Ginny was a member of her local P.E.O. Chapter for over 60 years.

Ginny and Clyde loved to travel and visited all seven continents. After Clyde's death, she continued to enjoy traveling, making trips with various family members to Sidney, Australia, the Chautauqua Institute, Niagara Falls in New York, Arizona, and California. Her favorite trip was in 2017 when she and all of her children went to Mackinac Island in Michigan to celebrate the 4th of July.

With her sweet smile and warm nature, Ginny made friends everywhere she went. Her home was a magnet for her children's and grandchildren's friends to visit. She made you feel at home. She enjoyed reading a wide variety of books and discussing them in her Reader's Club. In her later years she enjoyed watching the Hallmark Channel with her daughters. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed the friendships she made through the numerous bridge groups she belonged to.

She found peace and joy through her walk with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Just as her Savior came not to be served but to serve, the uniqueness of Ginny, was she always sought to serve others and, through a life of sacrifice, she found, love, joy, and untold blessings. Her daily devotional in "Jesus Calling-Enjoying Peace in His Presence" provided great comfort to her.

She is survived by sons Richard (Margaret) and John (Julie), and daughters Felicia (Tracy) Bradshaw and Melanie Wieland, nine grandchildren, and six great grandchildren, as well as her twin sister, Katherine Stidwell of California.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Clyde Wieland, parents, Jim and Irene Robertson, and brother, James Robertson.

The family would like to thank Ginny's oncologist, Dr. Carolyn McCourt, and her fantastic staff at Missouri Baptist Hospital for four years of the best care possible. They would also like to thank their phenomenal community for all their love and support.

Visitation is from 4:00-8:00 p.m., on Thursday, December 13, 2018, at First Presbyterian Church in Jerseyville.
