Virginia Ellen Shelton, 95, passed away on Monday, December 25, 2017, at San Gabriel Memory Care in Glen Carbon.
She was born on December 2, 1922, in Quincy, IL, the daughter of Harvey and Opal (Autery) Bridgeman.
Virginia married Howard L. Shelton on September 5, 1942 in Old Monroe MO. He preceded her in death on May 6, 2006.
Virginia loved spending her time dancing, singing, playing bingo, her card club in which she loved to play pinochle, watching Cardinal baseball with her husband Howard and working in local elections.
She is survived by two daughters, Judy Davis of Fairview Heights, Kathy (Jim) Budde of Alton; one son Michael (Cathi) Shelton of Bethalto; six grandchildren, Darin (Joy) Davis, Jonathan (Karrie) Denney, Joshua (Nealy) Budde, Elisha Naumann, Jenna Shelton, and Mikka (Nathan) Holloway; twelve great- grandchildren, Kaylee, Noah, Isabella, Kaitlyn, Kameron, Kaleb, Shelton, Aniston, Meliska, Trenton, Tyson, and Tobin. She will be missed by many family, friends, and others who have cared for her in the last several years.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Howard Leroy Shelton Jr.; grandson, Christopher Davis; and sisters-in-law, Lila Sunderland and Hazel Lobsinger
Visitation will be from 9:30 am until time of service at 11am Saturday December 30, 2017 at Elias, Kallal, and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto with Rev. Thomas Nadelin, MIV officiating.
Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association or Muscular Dystrophy.
