Virginia Davitz, age 71, of Wood River, passed away Sunday, December 25, 2016, at Alton Memorial Hospital.
She was born March 25, 1945 in Belleville, the daughter of Stanley and Imelda (Schoenborn) Salomone.
Virginia worked in the accounting department for Williams Office Products for many years, and she considered Dave Jones to be one of the family. She was a Cub Scout leader and enjoyed competitive dancing. Virginia’s life revolved around her children.
She is survived by three children; Deanna (Tony) Jenkins of Wood River, Jeffery (Carrie) Davitz of Belleville, Lori Friess, and her significant other, Eddie, of Wood River; four siblings, Mary Eitzenhefer-Tune, Angie (Tom) Downing, Marge (Paul) Blackburn, Rita Salomone; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren with one on the way; special friend, Bob, who made her last years very happy.
She is preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Frances Salomone; and a brother, Tom Salomone.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 30, 2016 from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Staten-Fine Funeral Home in Alton.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, December 31, 2016 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton with Father John Wykkes OMVofficiating.
A private family burial will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Special Olympics or PTOEC (Parent Teacher Organization for Exceptional Students.
