Virginia Ashlock

Virginia L. “Ginger” Ashlock, 79, passed away Thursday, February 26, 2026 at Jersey Community Hospital with her family and loved ones by her side.

Born Oct. 19, 1946 in Corning, NY, she was a daughter of George J. and Adelaide (Vaccaro) Sirotiak.

Ginger was a life member of both the Loyal Order of the Moose, Lodge #1349 and Women of the Moose, Chapter #263. She was a member of the College of Regents and was past Senior Regent of Chapter #263. She earned the Star Recorder Degree, was a former Chapter Advocate, and was a member of the Academy of Friendship. Ginger was also a life member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority, Chapter Xi Gamma Mu, serving several terms as President.

She married Gerald “Butch” Ashlock Aug. 9, 1964 in Portsmouth, VA. He survives, as well as two sons, Lawrence Ashlock and companion Janet Redman of Alton and Kenneth (Amanda) Ashlock of Murray, KY; a son-in-law, Victor Sever of East Alton; 5 grandchildren, Jessica Hettick, Victoria Wagner, Ryan Sever, Matthew Ashlock, and Eli Ashlock; 4 great grandchildren, Adrianna and Isabella Paynic and Ronin and Greyson Wagner; a sister, Anne Marie (John) Spordone of North Reading, MA and nieces, Kaitlin Murphy and Victoria Fruh; a brother-in-law, Bill Clendenen and several nieces and nephews; and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter, Kathleen Sever.

Ginger enjoyed traveling with her friends and family, attending anything and everything for her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. She enjoyed playing and teaching games with her grandchildren. Ginger provided constant wisdom and guidance and always “ruled the roost”. Holidays were special to her, always feeding her family and friends with food and love.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday, March 6 at Paynic Home for Funerals. A Women of the Moose Service of Tribute will begin at 6:45 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 7 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton.

Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Moose Charities (Mooseheart).
