Virginia A. Bensman, age 88, went to be with the Lord at 3:45 pm on Thursday, April 22, 2010 at her residence.
She was born in St. Louis, MO on November 10, 1921, daughter of the late Helen (Schamel) Timpe.
She married Eugene "Gene" F. Bensman in St. Charles, MO on August 6, 1942. He passed away on August 18, 1983.
Virginia was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton and involved with the Alton / Wood River Sportsman Club Aux for many years. She enjoyed camping, fishing, (in which she had several stories), playing cards, shopping and spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Pat & David Lilley of Alton and a son, Harold "Butch" Bensman of Alton; two grandchildren, Christy Lilley of Alton and Brandy and her husband Donny McClain of Cottage Hills; three great grandchildren, Vicki, Tyler and Erin and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her mother, husband, one brother, Harold Youthan and one sister, Loraine Phillips.
Visitation will be from 10 am until funeral service time at 11 am on Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at Staten Fine Funeral Home in Alton, with Brother John Luong O.M.V. officiating.
Burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery in Alton.
Memorials may be given to the 5 A’s and or St. Anthony’s Hospice.
