Virgil Lee Bowman, 68, died at 5:10 p.m. Thursday, March 1, 2018 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. Born November 27, 1949 in Alton, he was the son of the late John W. and Catherine (Sicuso) Bowman. Virgil grew up in Alton. He attended St. Patrick’s grade school and graduated from Alton High School in 1968. Virgil was a happy grocery clerk for several local stores and he worked and took retirement from the Ford Assembly Plant in Hazelwood, MO. He greatly enjoyed being a store clerk again, putting in 10 years at the Cabela’s Store in Hazelwood, MO. In 1969 he became the father to Jennifer whose mother is Shirley (Quertermouse) Bowman Farmer. In 1979 he married the former Kathy (Duelm) Huette at Bunker Hill Zion Church where they are members. Through adoption, Virgil became the father of Christopher Brian Bowman in 1980. He is survived by his wife, Kathy, two children, Jennifer (Kostas) Mitsouras of Athens, Greece, and Chris (Tara) Bowman of Watertown, WS, three grandchildren, Alexandra and Stefanos Mitsoura, Seith Bowman and one great grandchild, Vasilis, and a brother, Louis F. (Denise) Bowman of Acworth, GA. He was preceded in death by a brother, John S. Bowman. Kathy wants a celebration of Virgil’s life to be held Sunday, March 4, 2018 from 2:00-6:00 p.m. at the Godfrey KC Hall on Stamper Lane. Virgil’s favorite cuisine was brats and beer, so stop by for a nibble and tell us your memories. There will be an opportunity to donate to Rolling Hills Golf Course Scholarship Fund for kids to play golf and the New Horizons Band will accept musical instruments or monetary donations to buy instruments for kids who cannot afford them. We don’t know if Virgil is fishing, golfing or tooting his saxophone but we know he is in the company of Jesus and he is in perfect health. Gent Funeral Home in Alton is in charge of arrangements.
