Virgil Edward Knauss, 95, passed away 11:03 p.m. Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at Eunice Smith Nursing Home in Alton.
Born on December 3, 1920 in East St. Louis, he was the son of Goebel and Lottie (Summers) Knauss.
Virgil had worked as a custodian for Shell Oil Refinery for 46 years before retiring in 1989. He enjoyed fishing and playing dominoes.
He is survived by a step-brother, James Hammond of Affton, MO; and nieces, Dawn Willett, Brandy Forrest and Sarah Hammond.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, December 10 at Marks Mortuary in Wood River. Rev. Richard Newcom will officiate.
His interment will be in Milburn Cemetery in Milburn, KY
Memorials may be made to the Whitelaw Av Baptist Church in Wood River, where he had attended.
