Violet Mae Bartlett, 93, died suddenly at 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at her residence.She was born in Calhoun County on Feb. 13, 1919, one of three children born to the late Carl Otto & Ruby (Kress) Plummer.Violet attended Meadow Branch country school, and prior to her marriage, she was employed as a nanny for Dr. McDonald and his family of Alton, and later worked at the International Shoe Factory in Jerseyville.She married Eugene Rekas Bartlett on May 16, 1945, and they shared 52 years of marriage before his death on Dec. 1, 1997.Violet was a homemaker and took great pride in her family, and as a farm wife dedicated herself to ensure that all her families needs were taken care of.  She was a proud mother, and was involved in all her children's activities.She loved to root on her St. Louis Cardinals, and enjoyed her time in her garden and raising tomatoes.  No one had a bigger smile on her face than Violet did when her grandchildren and great grandchildren were around her.She loved her family with all her heart.Surviving are a daughter & son in law, Jane & Mike Heitzig of Jerseyville; a son & daughter in law, Paul & Mary Bartlett of Brighton; a daughter in law, Theresa Bartlett of Brighton; nine grandchildren & their spouses, David & Christy Foutch of St. Clair, Mo., Stacy & Robert Krupco of Brighton, Patrick & Morgan Bartlett of Godfrey, Christine & Brian Fredericks of Elmwood Park, Cindy & Dan Nowak of Mt. Prospect, Carrie Heitzig of Alton, Cassie Heitzig, and her fiance' Derek Russell of Chicago, Andrew & Julie Bartlett and Emily & Justin Wittman all of Jerseyville; nine great grandchildren, and one due in March.She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, her beloved son, Eugene Kress "Bitsy" Bartlett on Jan. 29, 2012; a brother, Carl Otto Plummer; and a sister, Dorothy Bartlett.Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at  the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday.Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.Memorials may be given to the St. Francis/Holy Ghost Catholic Schools in Jerseyville or the First Presbyterian Church of Brighton.
