Violet 'Lou' McGarrah, 89, passed away 12:35 p.m. Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at Bethalto Care Center.
Born in Wood River on December 11, 1925, she was the daughter of Charles and Francis (Stimac) Zupan.
A homemaker, she was a member of the Wood River Garden Club, served as an usher at The Fox Theater, loved line dancing, bowling, her grandchildren and "mothering people".
Lou married William McGarrah on December 31, 1945 in Granite City. He died January 10, 1993.
Surviving are a son, Gabie McGarrah of Wood River; a daughter, Deborah Rogers of Wood River; six grandchildren, Richie Flom, Cathy Callahan, Amber (Bob) Hernandez, Mary Beth (Coleman) Michaels, Christopher (Apiffany) Flom, Rio McGarrah; and five great grandchildren, Brenden, Lillian and Jaden Hernandez, Evan Callahan, Coleman Michaels.
Preceding in death were her husband; daughter, Vronica Flom; two brothers, John and Paul Zupan; and four sisters, Mary Baldwin, Ann Kennel, Katherine Fitzgerald and Dorothy Rehmstedt.
Visitation will be from 9 am until time of service at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Marks Mortuary in Wood River.
Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or BJC Hospice.
