Victoria Lynn “Vicki” Burgener, 68, formerly of Granite City, IL, passed away peacefully at her home, Clinton Manor in New Baden, Illinois, on the evening of September 14, 2026. Born on December 23, 1957, to the late William Joseph and Barbara (Miller) Burgener, Vicki was an inspiration and joyful presence in the lives of everyone who knew her.
Vicki graduated from Granite City High School North in 1979. She was a member of Victorious Missionaries at Our Lady of the Snows Shrine, a faith-based organization that encouraged individuals with disabilities to put their faith into action through connecting with others. Vicki also worked at Community Link in Breese, IL, a nonprofit organization providing shelter, support, and services to individuals with disabilities and their families.
Vicki’s bright personality was evident not only through the service she gave to her community, but also in the many joyful ways she expressed herself. She had a flair for fashion and loved coordinating her outfits, right down to matching her hairbows with her skirts and socks. And when it came to bingo, Vicki was the queen. She loved the game, the anticipation of waiting for her numbers, and, of course, the thrill of a win.
Vicki’s friendships meant so much to her, and the community she built around her reflected how easy she was to love. She was a warm and inviting presence who radiated joy each day. Her cheerful smile and genuine affection for those around her will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
In addition to her parents, Vicki was preceded in death by her brother, William Burgener; and her sisters, Mary Katherine Garren and Barbara Wilson.
Vicki is survived by her sisters, Theresa (James) Flood of Powell, TN, and Lee Ann (Richard) Ackerman of St. Louis, MO; as well as many loving nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors.
Visitation will be held on Sunday evening, September 20, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Irwin Chapel in Granite City.
In celebration of Vicki’s life, a funeral mass will take place on Monday, September 21, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church in Granite City, with Father Stephen Thompson officiating.
Vicki will be laid to rest beside her parents at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville, IL.
Memorial contributions can be made to Community Link in Vicki’s honor. Donations will be accepted at the funeral chapel.
