Vernon W. Deall, 73, passed away unexpectedly at 10:43 am Monday May 10, 2010 in the emergency room at Alton Memorial Hospital.
He was born on March 31, 1937 in Alton, the son of John & Etta Deall.
Vernon attended the Alton school system and SIUE before commencing a lifelong career in the grain industry. He joined the Peavey Company in 1960 and advanced to the position of Lead Merchandiser for export corn. In 1969 he started his own barge corn brokerage firm and was still active as a broker at the time of his death. Vernon was a former member of the Chicago Board of Trade as well as the St. Louis Merchants Exchange. He was also an avid golfer for 36 years at Lockhaven Golf Club.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Bruce & Lisa Deall of Godfrey, John & Donna Deall of Florissant, MO; a daughter and son-in-law, Dana & Greg Mahoney of Jupiter, FL; a son Tim Deall of North Irwin, PA; a son Jeffrey Deall of Rosewood Heights, IL; seven grandchildren, Matt, Megan, Meredith, Zachary, Alex, and Jackson Deall, Katie Mahoney, and a sister, Jean Upchurch of Alton; and a special friend, Patsy Brown.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Oren Deall.
Visitation will be from 10 am until time of funeral services at 12 noon on Thursday, May 13, 2010 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey with Pastor Jim Walker officiating.
Burial will follow at Upper Alton Cemetery.
