Vern D. Dewey, 86, died Saturday, June 9, 2012 at Provo Rehab and Nursing in Provo, UT. He was born April 11, 1926 in Mound City, KS the son of Oscar Emery and Frances June (Holt) Dewey.
On July 3, 1951 in Harrison, Arkansas he married Shirley Pelot and she preceded him in death on May 22, 2011. They were married for time and eternity on April 5, 1960 at The Salt Lake City Temple. He served in the Navy during WWII on an aircraft carrier in the Pacific theatre. He was a drummer for various bands in the Alton/St. Louis area for many years. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Godfrey. He retired in 1988 after 27 years at Central Hardware in Bridgeton, MO.
He is survived by two daughters; Anne Dewey Sudweeks (Bryan) of Provo, UT, Patricia Dell Trent ( Phillip) of Cary, N.C., three sons; John Lee Dewey (Valerie) of Denver, CO, Thomas Dale Dewey (Shelly) of Gillespie, IL and Richard William Dewey (Debra) of Orem, UT, 19 grandchildren , seven great grandchildren and one sister; Caroljean McCarty of Mound City, KS.
Visitation will be Friday, June 15, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. -7:00 p.m. at GENT Funeral Home in Alton. Visitation will continue from 8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on Humbert Road in Godfrey on Saturday morning.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. with Bishop David Hargiss to officiate. Burial will be at Upper Alton Cemetery.
