Verdna Bodenbach

Verdna B. Bodenbach, 93, passed away Saturday, September 28, 2024 at her home.

Born Apr. 20, 1931 in Hardin County, IL, she was the daughter of Orval and Lois (Cruse) Hobbs.

Verdna worked as an assistant dietician at Alton Memorial Hospital for over 25 years until her retirement in 1991. She was a member and last surviving founder of the Beltline Christian Center in Alton, which was founded in 1963. She served her church as pianist and organist for over 5 decades.

Verdna and Lloyd Virgil Bodenbach were married Dec. 19, 1948 in East Alton.  He passed away May 29, 2007.

Survivors include her children, Pamela Herron of East Alton, Mark (Carolyn) Bodenbach of Jerseyville, and Tracy (Angie) Bodenbach of Alton; ten grandchildren, Garry (Lindsey) Herron, Kyle Herron, Bronson Bodenbach, Wes Wileman, Lindsey (Nathan) Hellrung, Carrie Wileman, Anastasia (Nicholas) Henschen, Trenton (Leah) Bodenbach, Andrew Bodenbach, and Joseph (Kirsten) Bodenbach; 23 great grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter; two brothers, Harry Hobbs and Shannon (Sandy) Hobbs, all of East Alton; a sister-in-law, Carolyn Bodenbach of East Alton; many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her parents-in-law, Otto and Anna Bodenbach; a son-in-law, Garry Herron, Sr.; a daughter-in-law, Laura Bodenbach; and several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Lowell and Norma Bodenbach, Norma and Vincent Das, Betty Hobbs, and Jerry Bodenbach.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1 at Beltline Christian Center, where Revs. Todd Shaw and Adrian Das will officiate services at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2. Burial will follow at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.
