Vera L. Vetter, 94, passed away on Monday June 4, 2018 at Calhoun Nursing and Rehab.
She was born on August 31, 1923 in Hamburg, IL, the daughter of the late Carroll A. S. and Beulah T. (Becker) Hirst. She married Bernard “Boots” Vetter, he preceded her in death.
Vera was a member of St. Anselm’s Catholic Church in Kampsville. She liked to sew, make crafts and loved to play table games. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan.
She is survived by three sons: John A. (Luretta) Meyer of Brighton, Jerry (Peggy) Meyer of Grafton, and Fred J. (Cristi) Meyer of St. Peters, MO; five daughters: Mary Gerecke of Bunker Hill, Martha (Rick Demers) Meyer of Merritt Island, FL, Virginia (Gary) Heichelbech of St. Peters, MO, Joann (Carl) Kiel of Meppen, and Carolyn Dahlen of Duluth, Minnesota; two brothers: Kenneth Hirst of West Virginia and Glenn (Emily) Hirst of Indiana; one sister: Moina (Orville) Miller of Ohio; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard “Boots” Vetter in March of 1990; daughter, Margaret Ann Meyer; three brothers, John, Irvin, and Keith Hirst; one granddaughter, Jennifer Kiel; one grandson, Jeremy Meyer; and one son-in-law, Harry Gerecke
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 pm Friday, June 8, 2018 at Gress, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Hardin.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am Saturday, June 9, 2018 at St. Anselm’s Catholic Church in Kampsville with Fr. Don Roberts celebrant.
Burial will follow at Summit Grove Cemetery in Kampsville.
Memorials may be made to the Diabetes Foundation or Charity of ones choice.
