Wood River |

On September 4th., 2017 at 1:05pm, surrounded by her family, the dear Lord took our beloved mother, Vera A. Stanich to be united with our loved ones in heaven.

Our mother was born September 9th, 1928 in Wood River, IL. to James and Emma (Weishaupt) Noe. Throughout her young life she lived in Batchtown, Illinois and attended Brussels Elementary School thru her sophomore year at Brussels High School. Mother's family moved to Wood River, and as a junior she attended East Alton Wood River High School.  Mother was a proud cheerleader her junior and senior year for the Oiler football team.On June 7th, 1947, she married her high school sweet heart, George M. Stanich.  They became proud parents of three children, George J. Stanich (Marlene) East Alton, Veronica A. (Stanich) Galletta (Roland) Holiday Shores, and Diana M. (Stanich) Jones (Gerry) Holiday Shores.During her young life, mother worked as a telephone operator for Bell Telephone, in Alton, Illinois.  In the early 60s, mother worked for Olin, as a telephone operator.  During this time of her life she volunteered to be a Brownie leader, room mother and cook for the nuns at St. Bernard's School. Our mother was a mother to many of our friends.  She allowed our house to be the house that all our friends wanted to, "hand out" at.  Because of her kindness and loving spirit, she created happy memories for so many. Upon retiring, as telephone supervisor from Olin, mother spent her time being surrounded by her grandchildren: Kimberly (Stanich) Carstens, Steve Stanich, Chris Galletta, Tony Galletta, Laura Jones, Lance Jones, and Joshua Jones.  As years passed she became a great grandma to Tyler, Brendon, Colton, Ashley and Amber Carstens, Kason and Nolan Jones and McKinlee Galletta. Recently she became a Great Great Grandma to, Brian J. Carstens. Our mother is survived by her sister in law, Evelyn Freezeland, Roxana and nieces and nephews.Preceded in death by her parents, our loving father, her brothers, Roy, Bill and Edward Noe.
