Venita A. Childers, 84, passed away 7:48 a.m., Saturday, March 11, 2017 at her residence.
Born on October 18, 1932 in rural Jefferson County, IL, she was the daughter of James P. and Lela May (Mann) Brown.
She had been a secretary at SIU-E for 28 years before retiring in 1995.
Venita had been a past treasurer for the Wood River Library, "Friends of the Library". She enjoyed traveling, reading,embroidery, crochet,watching Cardinal Baseball and most of all, spending time with her grandchildren.
Surviing are a son, James F. Bick of Bethalto; daughter, Jane E. Bick Baget of Wood River; three grandchildren, Amanda (Adam) Jackson, Randy J. (Brooke) Bagent, Joy Ellen Bick; three great grandchildren, Johnathon and Grace Jackson, Rayna Davis; brother, Ray A. Brown of Margate, FL; and a sister, Wilma Titsworth of Bethalto.
Preceding in death were her parents; brother, Gale Brown; and a sister, Jean Heck.
A Celebration of Life Memorial visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Marks Mortuary in Wood River.
