VELMA JOHNS

JERSEYVILLE-  Velma Marie Johns, 77, died at 12:29 p.m.,, Thursday, April 26, 2012 at Alton Memorial Hospital in Alton.

She was born in Alton on Aug. 31, 1934, and was the daughter of the late Perry & Marie (Bazzell) Brown.

Velma graduated in 1951 from  Alton High School, and soon began working at the Owens-Illinois Glass Factory in Alton.  However, she worked for 25 years at Greenwood Manor Nursing Home in Jerseyville where she started out as a Certified Nurses Assistant, and retired in 2011 from the therapy department.  She enjoyed her retirement and perfected her skills as a talented tole painter.

She married Bobby Gene Johns on March 27, 1954 in Alton, and together they have shared 58 years together and raised four children and have been blessed  with six grandchildren & four great grandchildren..

Velma is survived by her husband Bobby Johns of Jerseyville; a daughter & son in law, Vallie & Jeff DeClue of Jerseyville; two sons & a daughter in law, Tony & Sally Johns of Godfrey and Jeff Johns of Jerseyville; a daughter in law, Marlene Johns of Jerseyville; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; a brother & sister in law, Earl & Sue Brown of Alton; and a sister, Pat Scoggins of East Alton; and two special friends, Lena Markham and Jackie McNatt both of Otterville.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a beloved son, Robert Leon Johns on June 18, 2010; an infant brother & sister, Daniel & Donna Jean Brown; and a brother  in law, Jerry Scoggins.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Rev. Sonny Renken will officiate.

She will be laid to rest in the Noble Cemetery in Otterville.

Memorials may be given to the new addition of the Noble Cemetery in Otterville or to the family, both in care of the
