Velda M. Trice, 94, passed away at 11:50am on Thursday, December 7, 2017, at Alton Memorial
Hospital. She was born on May 17, 1923, in Alton, the daughter of the late Lee S. and Mamie A.
(Westfall) Hopkins. She married Edward Trice on June 17, 1940, in Alton, and he preceded her in
death on March 8, 1994. Survivors include one daughter: Judith A. “Judy” Hodapp of Bethalto,
three grandchildren: Linda Hodapp of Bethalto, Starla and Dave Germeroth of Alton, Deanna and
Brad Zercher of Danvers, Illinois, two grandchildren: Sarah Ehler, Rickey T. Hayes, two great –
great grandchildren: Bryce Ehler and Braelynn Ehler.
Velda was employed as a meat wrapper at Tri – City Grocery for over fifteen years prior to her
retirement.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her son in law; Donald
“Don” Hodapp, and her siblings.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be from 10am until time of funeral services at 12pm on
Tuesday, December 12, 2017, at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River. Rev. Andre Dobson will
officiate. Burial will follow at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.
Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association and will be accepted at the funeral home.
