Todd A. Bowers, 52, died at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, October 21, 2010 at his home.
Born July 27, 1958 in Alton, he was the son of Ruth (Saale) Bowers Guntren of Godfrey and the late Nelson Bowers. Todd graduated from Alton High School and Wyoming Technical College. He owned and operated Bowers Towing in Godfrey and also Midwest Soda Blasting in Wood River. He was a volunteer fireman in Godfrey for over 15 years and was the past president of the Board of Trustees for the Godfrey Fire Protection District. He was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey, the American Towing Association, the Professional Towing Illinois Organization and a former member of the Optimist Club and enjoyed cooking and BMX bike racing.
On June 10, 1991 in Las Vegas, he married the former Kathy Orban. She survives. Along with his wife and mother, he is survived by a son, Jeffrey Bowers of Godfrey, a daughter, Michelle Bowers of Godfrey, two step sons, Jay Sansone of Brighton and Wade Glover and his wife Paige of Brighton, seven grandchildren; Brianna Hill, Samantha Simmons, Kaylin Sansone, Courtnee Sansone, Jayden Sansone, David Glover and Chloe Glover, one brother, David Bowers of Henderson, NV, three sisters, Donna Hall and her husband James of Clinton, IL, Linda Hawkins and her husband John of Keller, TX and Theresa Miller and her husband Michael of Bethalto, numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles and a special friend, Moe Hand. He was preceded in death by his father, Nelson Bowers and his step-father, Frank Guntren.
A prayer service will be at 3:30 p.m. followed by visitation from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Monday at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey. Father Steve Pohlman will officiate.
Burial will be at St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
