Thurman O. Brooks Jr., 86, of Glen Carbon, Illinois passed away at 6:18 p.m. on Sunday, September 28, 2025, at Aspen Creek of Troy.
He was born July 7, 1939, in Granite City, a son of the late Thurman O. Brooks and the late Dora (Gordon) Brooks Welch.
He married the love of his life, Mary Ann (McDowell) Brooks on January 19, 1962, at the Trinity Tabernacle in Madison and she survives.
The United States Navy veteran proudly served his country for 4 years. He retired in 2008 from St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Granite City after nearly 50 years of service as a boilerman and in maintenance. He was a faithful member of Freedom In Jesus Ministries and enjoyed volunteering with the City Temple Food Pantry. Thurman was always willing to help others and enjoyed being there for his neighbors. In his younger days, he enjoyed his days of fishing, traveling and taking many road trips with his wife.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by a sister-in-law, Elon Brooks of Caseyville; many nieces and nephews; other extended family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Brooks and four sisters, Shirley Paschedag, Frieda Honnican, Joyce Walliser and Thelma Findley.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Freedom in Jesus Ministries Church, 3950 Horseshoe Lake Road in Granite City on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 12:00 noon with Pastor Jody Pearman officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon.
