Thomas Powers

Thomas W. Powers, 76, died at 9:22 p.m. Monday, January 30, 2017 at Alton Memorial Hospital. Born July 30, 1940 in St. Paul, MN, he was the son of Edward and Virginia (Helzer) Powers. On November 8, 1975 he married the former Evelyn “Ev” Teat in Alton. She preceded him in death on April 3, 2012. Mr. Powers was a member of the Alton Eagles for 39 years as well as the Owls Club. He served on the Board for the Olin Credit Union for 20 years. He was passionate about animals, loved camping and crossword puzzles and especially enjoyed his kids and grandkids. In 1996 he retired as inventory manager for the Olin Corporation after 33 years of service. Surviving is a daughter, Renee McKaig of Alton, two sons, Ronald (Kellie) Weissenfluh of Kane, and Paul (Lydia) Weissenfluh of Wood River, 14 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. Along with his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Ricky Weissenfluh and a great-great grandson, Hunter Holliday. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, February 2, 2017 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 3, 2017. Pastor Steven Helfrich will officiate. Burial will be at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto. Memorials may be made to the 5A’s Animal Shelter.
