Thomas Hendricks

Thomas “Tom” D. Hendricks, 62, passed away at 2:29 am Friday, January 14, 2011 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO.

He was born on November 3, 1948 in Alton, IL, the son of Wilbur and Florence (Scott) Hendricks. 

 

He married Shirley Foster on November 8, 1980 in Bethalto.  She survives. 

 

Tom served his country in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1970 in Viet Nam.  He worked as a truck driver for 34 years at Amoco Oil, which became BP, retiring in 2004.  He enjoyed farming, driving large farm equipment, John Deere tractors and attending tractor pulls. In the summer he cut grass at area churches and businesses and in the winter he cut wood and trimmed trees. He attended Cornerstone Assembly of God Church in Bethalto.



In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, David Hendricks of St. Louis, MO and Paul and Elizabeth Hendricks of Bethalto; a daughter, Lisa Sullins of St. Louis, MO; a brother and sister-in-law, John and Leona Hendricks of Bethalto; a sister and a brother-in-law, Cathy and Roger Moore of NC; three grandchildren, Kylie, Alexis and Abigail Hendricks; two stepsons and a spouse, Robert McAninch of Godfrey and Mark and Rhonda McAninch of Bethalto; a step grandson, Christopher McAninch; his nieces and nephews and an aunt, Virginia Scott of Wood River.


He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Rebecca Hendricks.



Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Monday, January 17, 2011 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.  Funeral services will be at 10 am Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at the funeral home with Pastor Phil Schneider officiating.



Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto with full military rites given by Alton VFW Post 1308.

 

Memorials may be made to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
