Thomas “Tom” Crowder, 93, passed away at 12:30 p.m. Monday, November 6, 2017 at Rosewood Care Center in Alton.
He was born Oct. 6, 1924 in Mt. Vernon, IL to Huey Glen and Susan (Clark) Crowder. Tom was raised by Roy D. and Grace Crowder.
He married Betty L. Ozee Oct. 15, 1943. She preceded him in death Jan. 2, 2010.
A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was grateful to have taken an honor flight to Washington D.C. Tom worked as a pipefitter for Amoco Oil for 36 years, retiring Jan. 1, 1980. He also was a tax accountant for 60 years, working out of his home. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wood River.
Survivors include two daughters, Norma Cutt of Godfrey and Sharon (Stephen) Johnson of Peoria, IL; grandchildren Billy (Karen) Hert, Dawn (Kyle) Kennedy, Angel (Mark) Goodman, Jeff (Kristan) Johnson, and Stephanie (Dustin) Holland; and 16 great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Merle Greene and an infant sister Fern Crowder; three brothers, Janes H., Grover and Claude Crowder; a great grandson Chase Joseph Hert; and a son-in-law, Danny Cutt.
Graveside services will be at the Rose Lawn Memory Gardens Chapel on Thursday, Nov. 9 at 10 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made for Honor Flights, the Alzheimer’s Association, or St. Paul Lutheran Church.
