PAOLA, KANSAS — Thomas Patrick "Tom" Heneghan, 65, of Paola, Kansas, died April 23, 2017, at his home.
Tom was born August 15, 1951, in Alton, Illinois. He was the second of six children born to Lloyd Seet and Mary Helen Heneghan. He grew up and attended school in Jerseyville, Illinois. He graduated from Jersey Community High School with the class of 1969.
After high school, Tom enlisted into the United States Coast Guard. He was first stationed in Alameda, California, then later transferred to Portsmouth, Virginia. During his time in the Coast Guard, he was awarded a National Defense Service Medal, a Coast Guard Pistol Marksmanship ribbon and a First and Second Good Conduct Medal. Tom re-enlisted on October 3, 1973. After a total of 10 years, Tom was honorably discharged on October 2, 1979. Tom went back to California and contracted for the military. He was a machinist on the base.
Tom married Lourdesmarie Hernandez, and together, they had three children, Mike, Melissa and Matt. The marriage later ended in divorce. Then on March 17, 2007, he married Donna Marie Felten-Walker in Doyle, California. He not only gained a wife, but three children, Carl, Bill and Mylinda.
He was in a Mountain man group and would do rendezvous. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Tom loved to read any kind of westerns or about history. He was a member of the American Legion. Tom valued his family and friends. He kept in touch with friends that he had for many years.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents and wife Donna.
Survivors include children, Matt Heneghan of Vacaville, California, Mike Heneghan of Dixon, California, and Melissa Mendoza of Vallejo, California, CJ Walker of Paola, Kansas, Bill Farmer of Paola, and Mylinda (Mike) Richards of Osawatomie, Kansas; seventeen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; brother Joe (Rita) Heneghan of Jerseyville,
Illinois, four sisters, Jeane (Steve) Dean of Quincy, Illinois, Ann Heneghan Daum of Carrollton, Illinois, Charlotte Heneghan of Jerseyville and Linda (Rick) Martin of Midwest City, Oklahoma, along with other family and friends.
Memorial Service will be held on May 20, 2017, 2 to 4 p.m., at the Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home, 203 Main St.., Osawatomie, KS 66064.
Alexander and Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville is in charge of local arrangements.
