Thomas Jenkins

Thomas E. "Tom" Jenkins, 69, of Moro, Illinois, passed away Thursday, May 21, 2026, at Alton Memorial Hospital, with his family at his side.

Tom was born on September 1, 1956, in Granite City to Jerry and Carole (Mott) Pohlers.

On September 7, 1979, Thomas married Patricia Arbuthnot at Messiah Lutheran Church. Together they raised two children and built a life centered around family, faith, and plenty of laughter.

Tom dedicated 37 years of service as a mechanic for the City of Granite City. He took pride in his work and was known for always being willing to lend a hand when something needed fixing.

A deeply faithful man, Tom was a devoted member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Wood River. He loved rooting on the St. Louis Cardinals and the Rams, even after they moved to LA (but we'll forgive him for that).

Tom was a huge car enthusiast and enjoyed working on all types of engines. He cared deeply about nature and animals (especially dogs), and was an avid bass fisherman.

He was a deeply devoted "Poppy" to his six grandchildren, a best friend to his brother, Steve. He truly marched to the beat of his own drum and made life more enjoyable for those around him. He will be remembered for his unshakeable sense of calm, wicked sense of humor, and ability to connect with everyone who had the pleasure to meet him. He was well loved and will be dearly missed.

Tom is survived by his loving wife, Patty Jenkins; children, Jill (Chris) Edwards and Matt (Helena) Jenkins; brother, Steve Jenkins; sister, Lisa (Phil) Sutphin; his stepfather, Donald Pohlers; grandchildren, Ansley Edwards, Emery Edwards, Callen Edwards, Liliana Jenkins, Nicholas Jenkins, and Alex Jenkins; and his beloved dog, Ranger.

In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his brother, Greg Jenkins.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, May 28, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. until time of service at 7:00pm, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Wood River. Memorial donations are suggested to St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

Memorials are suggested to St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
