Thomas Henry Wuellner, Sr., 84, of Alton passed away at 4:40 p.m., Friday, February 2, 2018
at Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis, surrounded by his family.
He was born in Alton on October 12, 1933, the son of the late Andrew J. and Emma (nee: Lieb) Wuellner.
On November 29, 1958 he married his loving wife of nearly 60 years, Jane Pranger at St. John’s Catholic Church in Carrollton. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to many.
Prior to retirement he was President of J.J. Wuellner and Son Construction Company. He proudly served in the United States Army as a member of the occupational force of Germany following World War II. He was a long-time member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Alton Council #460, Lockhaven Country Club, Alton-Wood River Sportsmen’s Club, and a former board member of St. Anthony’s Health Center and Southern Illinois Builders Association.
He attended Bradley University and later Washington University. He was a dedicated local businessman who was proud of the many local buildings constructed by his family’s business, including Alton City Hall, Peavy Mill, Shell Oil, St. Anthony’s Health Center and many other historical buildings in the Riverbend.
Survivors include his wife Jane, four children; Victor Eugene (Dorothy, nee: Popmarkoff) of Godfrey, Karl Lawrence Wuellner of Alton, Sarah Wuellner (Dr. Bradley) Campbell of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Thomas Henry (Lori, nee: Moxey) Wuellner, Jr. of Bethalto, a sister; Lois Wuellner of Alton, six grandchildren; Dean William Wuellner, Thomas Joseph Wuellner, Megan Jane Wuellner, Malory Jean Wuellner, Lydia G. Campbell, and Christian B. Campbell, and many nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by three brothers; Eugene Victor Wuellner, Frederick A. Wuellner, and Donald T. Wuellner.
Visitation will be Tuesday, February 6, 2018, 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Elias-Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 7, 2018, 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton with Father John Wykes, O.M.V. as the Celebrant.
Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Alton.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Challenge Unlimited or to OSF St. Anthony’s HealthCare Foundation.
