Theodore Keck

Theodore “Ted” James Keck, age 75, of Edwardsville, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville. Born on October 4, 1950, in Granite City, Ted was the beloved son of the late Charles Keck Sr. and Elizabeth (Starr) Keck.

On June 2, 1991, Ted married Carol (Hess) Barnhart, in Collinsville, and together they built a beautiful life rooted in faith, family, and generosity. Ted was a proud and faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church in Carpenter, IL., where he found comfort, community, and purpose.

A dedicated and skilled pipefitter, Ted retired from Granite City Steel after 35 years of committed service. He was a man who found joy in simple pleasures, quiet mornings outdoors, hunting, fishing, and taking in the world around him. Though frugal with himself, Ted had a heart of extraordinary generosity. He was the first to show up when someone needed help and the last to ask for anything in return. His kindness was steady, sincere, and unwavering.

Ted loved deeply and laughed often. Above all else, he cherished his family. His presence, steady, humorous, and dependable was a blessing to everyone who was fortunate enough to know him. His legacy will live on in the countless lives he touched with his gentle strength and open heart.

Ted was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Charles “Tom” Keck Jr.; and his step-granddaughter, Casey Vannier.

Left to treasure his memory are his devoted wife of 34 years, Carol Keck of Edwardsville, IL, his loving children, Patty (Bobby) Smith of Hamel, IL,; twin sons Andy (Jessica) Keck and Sam (Jo) Keck, both of St. Jacob, IL, stepchildren Kristine Hendrix of Murrayville, IL, and twins Darla (Jim) Colp of Holiday Shores, IL and Dale Barnhart of Cape Canaveral, FL. He was a proud and joyful grandfather to Bobby Smith Jr., Marlee Smith, Macee Smith, Jocelyn Keck, Maximus Keck, Marshall Keck, Elizabeth Keck, and Silas Keck, and a loving step-grandfather to Kyle Hendrix, Michael Hendrix, Matthew Hendrix, Jessica Osborn, and Justin Colp. Ted also leaves behind five great-grandchildren, nephew, Thomas Keck, extended family members, and countless friends who will miss him dearly.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at Irwin Chapel in Glen Carbon, IL., from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 12:00 p.m., officiated by Rev. Dustin Krystowiak. Ted will be laid to rest at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates, Glen Carbon, Illinois.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bread of Life Food Pantry in Hamel. Donations will be accepted at the funeral home.
