Thelma Costanzo, 102, passed away Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at Stillwater Senior Living in Edwardsville with her family by her side.
She was born on February 16, 1921, in Tharp, TN the daughter of George and Unis (Blain) Hastings.
She married Joseph John Costanzo on February 3, 1945, and he preceded her in death in December of 2006.
Thelma lived most of her life in Wood River and Bethalto. She and her husband owned and operated Costanzo Jewelry in Wood River for many years. Thelma and Joseph were married for 63 years. She will be remembered as an excellent seamstress who worked on and created the dresses of many weddings, proms, and other formal events in the area. Thelma is deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
Thelma is survived by four children, Joseph W. and Jayne Costanzo of Glen Carbon, Lorraine and Bob Cunningham of Bethalto, Lawrence Costanzo of Dorsey, and Tony and Peggy Ann Costanzo of Inglewood, FL; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Costanzo; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, Joseph; she is preceded in death by her parents; six brothers; three sisters; and a daughter-in-law, Melodee Costanzo.
Visitation will be held Monday, December 4, 2023, from 10:00 am until the time of service at 12:00 pm at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto with Fr. Tom Liebler officiating.
Burial will take place in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
