Susan Zgonina

Susan Fay Zgonina, 63, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 1, 2025, at Gateway Regional Medical Center, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on February 8, 1962, in St. Louis, Missouri, Susan was the cherished daughter of the late David H. Gragg and Ida M. (Fellhauer) Gragg. On February 13, 1987, she married, Jeffrey “Jeff” Zgonina, and together they built a life centered on family.

For over twenty-seven years, Susan dedicated her talents and work ethic to the accounting department at Weber Chevrolet in Granite City. Her colleagues admired her integrity, attention to detail, and warm-hearted spirit.

Susan found joy in life’s simple pleasures—sunny days at the beach, the rhythmic sound of the ocean waves, and quiet moments of relaxation. A gifted cook and avid crocheter, she delighted in preparing comforting meals and creating handmade treasures for those she loved. But above all, her greatest joy was being a devoted wife, nurturing mother, and doting grandma to her beloved grandchildren. Her heart overflowed with love, and she gave it freely.

Known for her warm smile and boundless kindness, Susan never met a stranger. She touched countless lives with her generosity, compassion, and her readiness to help anyone in need. Her spirit leaves a lasting legacy in the hearts of those fortunate enough to know her.

Susan is lovingly remembered by her devoted husband, Jeff Zgonina; her children, Danielle Zgonina and Joshua (Summer) Zgonina; and her grandchildren, Addison Cannady, Braxton Cannady, Carsyn Cannady, Dustin Dunaway Jr., and Amora Dunaway—all of Granite City. She is also survived by her dear siblings, Gary (Laura) Gragg, Richard Gragg, and Kathi Nenninger; special friend, Randy Parks; as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, and treasured friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved sister, Patricia Jackson.

A visitation in Susan’s honor will be held on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Irwin Chapel in Granite City. A celebration of her remarkable life will follow with a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 7, 2025, also at Irwin Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. Contributions will be accepted at the funeral chapel.

Condolences and fond memories may be shared with the family online at www.irwinchapel.com.
