Susan Ann Johnson, 76, passed away Monday, August 19, 2019, at her home.
Born Oct. 14, 1942, in Alton, she was one of 18 children of Oscar and Cora Mae Shewmake.
Susan was a homemaker, taking care of her husband and her kids. She loved Bingo scratch-off tickets and said the blue ones never win. She was a very strong woman, using her own home remedies for illnesses and not needing a doctor until very recently. She fought to live until the very end.
She is survived by her children, Tommy Shewmake of East Alton, Susan Bailey of Godfrey, Deborah (Thomas) Whitehead of South Roxana, Candy Johnson (Gary Clark) of Bethalto, Joe Johnson and Asa Johnson, both of East Alton; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several of her siblings.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Ronald Johnson; her husband, Thomas Johnson; and some siblings.
Susan never wanted to have a funeral, but she wouldn't mind a cookout, so the family will have a BBQ on Sunday afternoon, Aug. 25, at her home, 123 Ohio Street in East Alton.
