Steven Karrick

Steven Michael Karrick, 57, died peacefully at 1:52 a.m., Saturday, December 23, 2017 at his home, after a courageous battle with cancer

He was born on July 13, 1960 in Jerseyville, one of four children born to Stanley and Marcella Karrick. 

Steve was raised in both the Kane and Dow areas and graduated with the class of 1978 from Jersey Community High School. 

He married the former Jeri Powell on September 5, 1987 at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville. Steve and Jeri’s married life began in Jerseyville before purchasing a home in Grafton in 2001, where they have remained for the past 16 years. Together, their 30 year marriage has been blessed with the joys of raising their family and many wonderful memories. 

Steve was employed as a Bricklayer with Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Local #8 of Illinois for the past 29 years. He was meticulous with his work and took great pride in every project that he was a part of. 

Steve’s life, simply put could be summed up in three words – nature, friends and family. He was a lover of anything outdoors, whether it was fishing, mushroom hunting or riding ATV’s.  He never knew a stranger and his outgoing personality afforded him many friendships throughout the years, some of which he participated in a horseshoe league with at the Do Drop Inn in Dow. Most importantly, was the love he had for his family and the memories he was able to create with them – whether it be daily conversations and visits or family vacations. Even in his last days here on Earth, he made sure to let his love for them be known every opportunity he could. 

Surviving are his wife, Jeri Karrick of Grafton; his father, Stanley Karrick of Dow; a daughter and son-in-law, Megan Karrick-Finkes, and her husband, Jacob, of Dow; a step-son and daughter in-law, Cory & Kathy Darr of Jerseyville; a grandson, Kyle Andrew Darr; three sisters and brothers in-law, Debra & Joe Wall of Edenburg; Karen & John Cobetto of Dow and Penny & Mike Mautino of Spring Valley; his mother in-law, Mary Ann Powell-Sinclair of Jerseyville; his brothers and sisters in-law, who Steve thought of as his own family; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members. 

He was preceded in death by his mother, Marcella Karrick; a nephew, Justin Mundy; as well as his father in-law, William Powell. 

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 12 p.m., Wednesday at  the Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville with Father Steve Pohlman officiating. 

Burial will take place at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville. 

In lieu of flowers and plants, memorials may be given to the American Lung Association or to Riverbend Humane Society in Jerseyville.
