Steve J. Butkovich, Sr., 88, passed away 3:45 p.m., Sunday, April 30, 2017 at Christian Hospital Northeast.
Born on November 22, 1928 in Wood River, he was the son of Joseph and Mary Butkovich.
A Korean War army veteran, he was a Riverboat Captain for 43 years with Mid-America Transportation and Mid-South Towing before retiring in 1991.
Steve was a member of the Wood River Knights of Columbus, Henderson, KY Veterans of Foreign Wars and Holy Angels Parish Church, where he had served as an usher for 26 years.
On November 6, 1965 in Eden Valley, MN, he married Margaret A. "Peggy" Foley. She survives.
Surviving also are two sons, Louis (Helen) Butkovich og Holly, MI, Larry (Jamie) Butkovich of Wood River; daughter, Meghan (Dean) Swaller of Arnold, MO; six grandchildren, Zach, Zane and ellie Butkovich, Brianna, Luke and Lexi Swaller.
Preceding in death were his parents; son, Steve J. Butkovich, Jr.; and seven brothers, Peter, Matthew, Mike, Paul, Benny, John and Joe Butkovich.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Holy Angels Church in Wood River, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday. Father Donald Wolford will officiate.
Burial will follow in Woodland Hill Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to masses or Holy Angels Parish.
