Stephen P. Woelfel, 86, of Michael, IL. passed away Friday June 30,2017, at Pike County Memorial, Louisiana, Mo.

He is the son of the late John and Clara (Tepen) Woelfel of Hardin, IL. Steve served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War on board the USS Twining (DD 540) as a Gunners Mate Third Class. Prior to his military years, he worked on the family farm.

On August 9, 1952, Steve married his bride of 48 years the late Lois Jane (Dixon) Woelfel. She preceded him in death. Steve and Lois along with his in laws Leon and Ogal Dixon owned and operated Rapid Dry Cleaners and Laundry, Hardin, IL. Steve worked as a barber apprentice at Bennett’s Barber Shop, Hardin, IL. He then moved to Kampsville where he opened Woelfel’s Barber Shop in 1963 which he operated nearly 50 years.

Steve was as member of the St. Michael’s parish, Michael, IL, the American Legion, Kampsville, IL and former member of the Knights of Columbus, Hardin, IL

Steve loved gardening, fishing, hunting, horseshoes, being outdoors, cooking, eating and spending as much time as he could with his family and friends.

Steve was the father of five, Terry Woelfel, of Michael, Greg and Veronica Woelfel, of Kampsville, Monica and Dan Hagen, of Hardin, Roger “Red” and Marilyn, of Batchtown, and Malinda and Roy Walton, of Winter Haven, FL; he is also survived by one sister, Agnes Klunk, of Hardin; 16 grandchildren Brad, Jerrad, Ashley, Gwendolyn, Gretchen, Dena, Christin, Josh, Chalah, Marisa, Roger JR., Lindsey, Randy, Amanda, Heather, and John; 20 great grand-children; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, wife, Steve was preceded in death by 6 brothers, Hubert, John, Charles, Bernard, George, and William Woelfel and 2 sisters Marie, and Margaret Woelfel.

Visitation will be from 5- 8 p.m. on Wednesday July 5, 2017, at Gress, Kallal, and Schaaf in Hardin.

Service will begin at 10 a.m. on Thursday July 6, 2017, at St. Michael Catholic Church in Michael, IL.  Burial will follow at St. Norbert’s Catholic Cemetery, in Hardin.
