Stanley Charles Rives, 65, of Greenfield, IL, died, of pancreatic cancer, on Thursday May 14th, 2026, at his home, in Springfield, IL.
He was born April 28th, 1961, in Carrollton, IL, to George Newell Rives and Rosemary (Medaris) Rives. He married Sandra Sowada on September 2nd, 2006, in Columbus, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents, Father-in-law, Delroy Sowada, and Brothers-in-law, Gregory and Terrance Sowada.
Surviving is his wife and stepson, Michael Sowada, of Tampa, FL, his brothers Stephen and Stewart, of Greenfield, sisters-in-law Lynn Juarez, Karen Sowada, and Patricia Gardener, and brothers-in-law, Roger and Alan Sowada, 19 nieces and nephews, 12 great nieces and nephews.
Stanley attended MacMurray College in Jacksonville, he graduated with a B.S. in Accounting/Business Administration, and a Minor in Computer Science. He followed with an M.B.A. from Western Illinois Univ. in Macomb, IL. Stan’s life work was serving his clients with developmental disabilities at Macon Resources Inc. in Decatur, IL. Stan was the Director of Finance but also developed computer access and communications between MRIs, group homes, and various clinical sites, where he served 29 years. He was actively involved in Greenfield Productions with The Alumni Singers and Style Shows. He was an avid gardener and woodworker. He was active member of the Church of the Little Flower. He loved his God and his Family.
A visitation will be held on May 20th, 2026, from 4 – 7 pm, at Shields-Bishop Funeral Home, in Greenfield, IL. Funeral to follow on May 21st, 2026, at 11am, at The Church of the Little Flower, in Springfield, IL. As per his wishes, cremation rights will be accorded after services, and interment will take place at a later date.
