Sister Mary Magdalen Fearon died peacefully on Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013, at the Ursuline Queen of Peace Healthcare Center in Alton, Ill. The daughter of Charles Walter Fearon and Rose McKay Fearon, she was born July 24, 1918, in Chicago. Of her ten siblings, three survive her: Sister Nancy Fearon, OSU, Rosemary Ryan and Jeanette Forbes. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Catherine Rose McGrath, Jane Elizabeth Flynn, Helen Veronica Simonis and Mildred Theresa Ronn, and her brothers, Charles Robert Fearon, Howard A. Fearon and Walter John Fearon.
Sister Mary Magdalen attended Ascension Parish Elementary School in Oak Park, Ill., and Oak Park River Forest High School. Her undergraduate work was done at St. Louis University, the College of New Rochelle, Fontbonne and Webster College. Her master's degrees were completed at DePaul University and Providence College in Rhode Island. She entered the Ursuline Sisters in July l941 and made her vows in January 1944. Her gift for teaching served her well in the education of elementary and secondary school children as well as adult education in Arcadia, Arnold and Kirkwood, Mo., Oak Park, Springfield and Decatur, Ill.; Galveston, Texas; and Frontenac, Minn.
Her last assignment was a long term of service to Saints Peter and Paul Parish in Collinsville, Ill. She retired to the Queen of Peace Healthcare Center in July 2006.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013, at the Ursuline Convent chapel, 845 Danforth Street, Alton, Ill. Rev. John P. Beveridge will preside.
Memorials may be made to the Queen of Peace Healthcare Center, 845 Danforth, Alton, IL 62002.
