Sister Beardslee

Sister M. Cecilia Beardslee, 68, went to be with the Lord at 10:50 am Sunday,

November 27, 2016 at St. Francis convent in Alton, IL.

She was born on September 29, 1948, in St. louis, MO, the daughter of Jason C. & kathryn (kramer) Beardslee.

Sister M. Cecilia entered the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Francis of the Martyr St. George in Alton on July 22, 1967. She began the Novitiate on March 19, 1968, and made her first profession of vows on March 19, 1970. She consecrated herself to the Lord forever in Final Profession on August 15, 1975.

After her First Profession, Sister M. Cecilia worked at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Alton, IL, before studying at Marillac College in St. Louis, MO. From 1974 through 1997, she performed housekeeping, refectory and sacristy services in St. Francis Convent, Alton, IL, Mother of Good Counsel Home, St. Louis, MO, and St. Joseph Convent, Lincoln, NE. From 1997 to 1998 she performed social services and nursing assistance in the Marian Heights Apartments in Alton, IL, before returning to Lincoln to serve in housekeeping at the Bonacum House for Retired Priests. From 2001 to 2002 she served as Sacristan at St. Francis Convent in Alton, and then returned to the Mother of Good Counsel Home in St. Louis, where she helped in the Sisters’ Dining Room, the Sacristy and in the Activities Department for the Residents. During this time she underwent treatment for Lymphoma, and achieved a temporary remission of the disease. However, in 2016 the disease recurred and treatment was no longer effective. Due to serious deterioration in her health, she was admitted to the Sisters’ Infirmary in Alton, IL, on August 31, 2016.

Sister m. Cecilia is survived by her religious community, her father, Jason Beardslee, and her nine siblings.

Sister m. Cecilia was preceded in death by her mother, step mother and one brother.

Visitation will be from 3 pm until time of wake service at 7:30 PM TUESDAY NOVEMBER 29, 2016 AT ST. FRANCIS CONVENT, 1 FRANCISCAN WAY, ALTON, IL WHERE A MASS OF CHIRSITAN BURIAL WILL BE HELD AT 10 AM WEDNESDAY November 30, 2016.

BURIAL WILL FOLLOW AT ST. JOSEPH’S CEMETERY IN ALTON.
