Shirley Maxine Armstrong, 86, died at 4:35 p.m., Friday, June 19, 2015 at the Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville.Shirley was born in Alton on Oct. 11, 1928, and was one of four children born to the late Bijah & Anna (Hausmann) Hodge.She married Francis Gerald Plummer in Nov. 1946, and together they were the parents of three children, and were only able to share nearly five years together before he was killed in an explosion at Shell Oil in 1951.  She then married Frederick Armstrong on Jan. 29, 1955 at the St. Patrick's Rectory in Grafton, and they were blessed 56 years together before his death on May 29, 2011.Shirley was a dedicated and loyal member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Grafton, and had worked at Keller's Steakhouse in Grafton for a number of years.  Her passion, however, was her family and their well being.Surviving are her three children & their spouses, Frank David & Rhonda Plummer of Jerseyville, Shirley M. Gallegos of Grafton, and Nancy Wendle of Godfrey; eight grandchildren, 18 Great Grandchildren; and a sister, Sarah Chestnut of Bunker Hill.In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by a son in law, Richard Gallegos; a brother, Harold Hodge; and a sister, Vera Womack.Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.Due to flooding conditions in Grafton, the Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Jerseyville.  Father Patrick Gibbons will officiate.Burial will be in the Scenic Hill Cemetery in Grafton.Memorials may be given to the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Grafton.
