Shirley Kingston

Shirley Jeannette Kingston, 85, passed away at 10:30 p.m April 1, 2017 at Eunice Smith Home in Alton.

She was born May 3, 1931, in Gallatin County, Illinois, a daughter of the late Claude S. and Pearle (Smith) Ingleton. 

Shirley and James O. Kingston were married on Sept. 22, 1951, in Cottage Hills. He passed away in April 1986.

Shirley was co-owner of Airport Real Estate in Bethalto for many years, retiring in 1995.

Survivors include a son, James Michael Kingston and fiancé Nadine Branham of East Alton; three grandchildren, Christine and Chad Gilbert of Wood River, Michelle Kingston and Bonita Bartels of Jacksonville, Mathew and Stephanie Kingston of Barnhart, Missouri; five great-grandchildren, Tyler and Joshua Gilbert of Wood River and Adam, Blake and Carley Kingston of Barnhart, Missouri; one sister, Lee Zirkelbach of Ridgeway.

Also preceding her in death was a daughter, Lenora Kingston; daughter-in-law, Rickey Kingston; sister, Joy McGrew.

Shirley was a member of 1st Family Church, formerly 1st General Baptist Church in East Alton for 60 years. She taught Sunday school for many years and used her talent of floral arranging to decorate the front of the church as the seasons changed and for holidays.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, April 6, 2017 at Gray Funeral Home in Wood River where service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 7. Rev. Mike Vaughn will officiate.

Burial will be at Wanda Cemetery in South Roxana.

Shirley will be sadly missed by family and friends.

Memorials may be to Diabetes Association and Shriners.
