Shirley J. Caselton, age 81, passed away at 6:35 a.m., Friday, January 18, 2013 at St. Anthony’s Hospital with her family by her side. 

Shirley was born in Batchtown, IL the daughter of the late George H. and Charlotte (Wieneke) Baecht Sr..

She married Marvin H. Caselton Sr. on February 24, 1951 in Brussels, IL. He preceeded her in death on November 20, 1991.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton, the VFW Post 1308 where she was a life time member of the VFW Ladies Auxillary, and the Alton American Legion.


She is survived by five daughters and their spouses: Sherry Ventimiglia of E. Alton, Sandra Amburg of Alton, Sheila Martin of Bethalto, Sarah and Joe Douglas of Brighton, and Stacy and Curt Stone of Dow; four sons and their spouses: Marvin and Maudie Caselton Jr. of Brighton, Mark and Karen Caselton of Sawyerville, IL, Michael and Nancy Caselton of Berthoud, CO, and Merle Caselton of Alton, fifteen grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren; two sisters and their spouses: Loyce and Milton Sagez of St. Charles, MO and Susan and Allen Syrcle of Griggsville, IL, two brothers and their spouses: George and Yvonne Baecht of Golden Eagle, IL, Frank and Anita Baecht of Golden Eagle, IL, and a very special friend: Edward Weishaar of Chicago, IL. 

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by one sister; Geneva Jacobs.

Visitation will be from 4 until 8 pm, Sunday, January 20, 2013 at the Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 am, on Monday, January 21, 2013 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton, IL with Father John Luong O.M.V. as celebrant.

Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, in Alton, IL .

Memorials may be directed to American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
