Shirley Smith

Shirley Geraldine Smith, 83, passed away Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at her residence with her family by her side.

She was born November 9, 1934 in Benton, Missouri to the late Jerome Lee and Emma Marie (Griffaw) Greer.

Shirley and Jack D. Smith were married on April 23, 1955 in St. Louis, Missouri. After 33 years of marriage, May 5, 1987, he sadly passed away.

Shirley work as an activity therapist at the Alton Mental Health Center Hospital, retiring after 26 years.

She and Jack attended the First General Baptist Church (First Friends Church) in East Alton. Shirley moved to Crystal City, Missouri. She was also a member of First Baptist Church of Festus/Crystal City, where she loved teaching Sunday school and being active within Women’s Missionary Union, as well as managing the Cookies for Cops program and the annual school supply charity drive. Shirley then moved to South Ogden, Utah to be near her son Aubrey and his family.

She is survived by a son, Aubrey and his wife Misty Smith of South Weber, Utah; two grandchildren, Hope Smith of Ogden and Spenser Smith of Bountiful, Utah; and a sister-in-law, Margaret Greer of Nampa, Idaho.

Shirley was preceded in death by a brother: Charles; and two sisters: Irene and Veda.

A celebration of Shirley’s life will be at 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at the First Baptist Church, 107 N. Truman Blvd, Festus, Missouri, where services will begin at 11:00. Burial will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO.
