Shirley Costillo

Shirley A. Costillo, age 90, of Granite City, IL, passed away on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at her home. Shirley was born on October 31, 1933, in St. Louis, MO, a daughter of the late Lois McBride and John White. On December 17, 1953, Shirley married David J. Costillo, the love of her life, and David passed away on April 16, 1994. Shirley retired from the billing department as a clerk from Leeway Motor Freight in St. Louis, MO, after many years of dedicated service. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary in Granite City, IL.  She enjoyed crocheting, bowling, and playing cards with her friends. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, whom she loved dearly. Shirley will be remembered as a loving mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and a dear friend. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. In addition to her parents and husband, Shirley was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Holly Jo Beavin; sister, Norma Carter; two brothers-in-law, Orville Carter and Gene Wright; and by her special friend, Lee Choat. She is survived by her loving children, David Costillo of Granite City, IL, Michael (Angela) Costillo of Granite City, IL, Andrew (Paula) Costillo of Granite City, IL and Catherine Davis of Springfield, IL; dear sister, Patsy Wright of Cape Fair, MO; proud grandmother to Christy (Ricky) Roberts, Michael (Katie) Costillo, Michelle Costillo, Jessica Costillo, Nicholas (Ali) Costillo, Emily Costillo and Fiance Mark McCarrell, Hannah Costillo and Samantha Jo Beavin; nine great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. In celebration of her life, a memorial visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at Irwin Chapel, Granite City, IL, with the memorial service to follow at 1:00 p.m. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Shirley’s caregiver, Gina Hatchett, for the wonderful care given to Shirley. Memorial donations may be given to Holy Family Catholic Church. Donations will be accepted at the funeral home. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.irwinchapel.com.
