Shirley Ann Greathouse Bucher, went to the Lord on Saturday, December 21st, 2024 at age 91. She was affectionately known as "Shern" by family, and Sherry to her friends.
Sherry was born May 13, 1933 to Homer Edward and Thelma Lee (Zigrang) Greathouse in Calhoun County, IL. She attended school in Hardin, IL until moving to Godfrey where she attended Saints Peter and Paul Grade School and Marquette Catholic High School, where she made lifelong friends. Sherry went to Ursuline Academy in St. Louis for less than a year, leaving school to marry Raymond Bucher on October 14th, 1950 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey.
For several years, Sherry was a volunteer at the Ursuline Convent in Alton and served as treasurer. She was also a member of the Godfrey Women’s Club. Sherry was a co-founder and worked as a bookkeeper for the family business, Bucher Glass Company.
Strong in her belief, she was a member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville and prayed the Rosary daily.
Sherry’s greatest joy was being a homemaker for her family, and she prided herself on making amazing pies and bread for her seven children: Michael (Jan) Bucher of Godfrey; Linda (Brad) Wheaton of Godfrey; (the late) Jon Bucher of Winona, MO; Carol (Pat) Kerwin of Dallas, Texas; Mari (Paul) Fahrendorf of O’Fallon, MO; Edward (Douglas Hulst) Bucher of Chicago; and Anne (Ted) Palles of Dallas.
Sherry was blessed to have 16 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren for her festive family gatherings. She also enjoyed gardening, music, and doing puzzles with her family.
Sherry was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and son, Jon Karl Bucher. There will be a funeral Mass at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey at 10 a.m. Friday, January 3, 2024 followed by a celebration of life at her daughter, Linda’s home.
Memorials may be made to Marquette Catholic High School, St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Holy Ghost Catholic Church.
