Shirley Bauer

Shirley M. Bauer, nee Scheibel, 95, of Belleville, IL, born April 10, 1930, in Belleville, IL, died Monday, January 5, 2026, at Freeburg Care Center, Freeburg, IL.

Mrs. Bauer had worked in Belleville as a telephone operator before becoming a homemaker. She was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Belleville, IL. Shirley loved flowers, Old Western television shows, and playing cards, especially the game Blitz. Shirley also loved music and playing the Organ. Most of all, she cherished spending time with her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 70 years, Edward P. Bauer, whom she married on September 30, 1950, and who died on March 27, 2020; a son, Edward Bauer; a grandson, Michael Bauer; her parents, August and Rose, nee Bohn, Scheibel; a sister, Dolores Thouvenot; two brothers, Raymond (Gayle) Scheibel and Ralph Scheibel; and a son-in-law, Jim Maddox.

She is survived by two daughters, Diane (Tom) Welker and Carolyn Maddox, both of Belleville, IL; a daughter-in-law, Debra Bauer of Katy, TX; six grandchildren, Alison Jester, Steven (Stephanie) Maddox,Jenny (Adam) Burke, Jill (Victor) Ranaivoson, Bryon (Amy) Bauer and Cristen Bauer; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Rita Joyce; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation: Friends may visit from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, January 8, 2026, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, IL.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, January 9, 2026, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, IL, with Deacon Corby Valentine officiating.

Burial will be at Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Shiloh, IL.
