Shawn Benjey

Shawn Lee Benjey, age 68, died at Memorial Hospital in Springfield, July 24, 2026 at 11:15pm. He was born at St Francis Hospital in Litchfield on October 16, 1956 to Stephen Leon and Virginia M (Madiol) Benjey.

He graduated from Gillespie High School in 1974 and served in the US Air Force in Germany. He was an aircraft mechanic at McDonnell Douglas in St. Louis, MO. He enjoyed playing his 6-string guitar, gardening, chess, Scrabble and pinochle.

Shawn is survived by brothers Tom (Ann) of Carlisle, PA, Dan (Betty) of Alton, Todd (Anna) of Grant, AL, Don and Grant of Wilsonville, sisters Kathleen Boyer and Beth Gallegos (Ralph) both of Rio Rancho, NM, two nephews Chris Benjey and Jesse Gallegos and two nieces Tara Benjey and Leticia Gallegos. He was preceded in death by brothers Terry and Steve.
