Shaun Koontz

Shaun Michael Koontz, age 47 of Vandalia, Illinois, passed away Saturday, March 14, 2026, following a cardiac event at HSHS Holy Family Emergency Room in Greenville.

A Celebration of Life will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 12, at the Mulberry Grove Baptist Church with Pastor Doug Bell officiating. The family will have a gathering after the service. Memorials are asked to be made to the family online by visiting www.donnellwiegand.com under the tribute tab.

Shaun Michael, the son of Audrey Gail Koontz, was born January 5, 1979, in Greenville. Shaun grew up in Bond County, attended the local schools, and later got his GED.

Shaun was the father of 4 children: Ethan Prehoda of Keyesport, Jacob Hebert of Centralia, Tessa Dunbar (Darren) of Greenville, and Landyn Koontz of Keyesport. He was also the grandfather of 2.

Surviving also includes Amber Frey, mother of two of his children, his siblings: Ryan Koontz, Stefanie Koontz of Mulberry Grove, Roger Frey of Mulberry Grove, Sherri Frey of Effingham, and Ami Frey of Mulberry Grove. Also surviving is his grandmother Sally Lamar, many nieces and nephews and a special nephew Jace Holloway. He was preceded in death by his loyal dog King.
