Sharon Kay Groppel, 71, passed away at 10:35 a.m. Sunday, March 11, 2012 at Alton Memorial Hospital.
Born Sept. 11, 1940 in Terre Haute, Ind., she was the daughter of Fred and Virginia L. (Wright) Maring.
Sharon married James E. Groppel Jan. 12, 1962 at the Wanda United Methodist Church, where she was a 50-year member. He survives.
She worked as a secretary for McDonnell-Douglas for 10 years. After raising her children, she worked as a secretary for Steck-Cooper & Co. Insurance and Ron Wisnaski State Farm Insurance. Sharon loved her dogs.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Teri (William) Glidewell of St. Louis; a son, Scott (Mitze) Groppel of Eldred; and two grandchildren, Abby Glidewell and Heath Groppel.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Johnny Groppel; and a brother, Ernest R. Maring.
Visitation will be Wednesday, March 14 at Paynic Home for Funerals in Rosewood Heights from 10 a.m. until services begin at noon. Reverend Gerald Savage will officiate.
Burial will follow at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.
Memorials may be given to the Wanda United Methodist Church or Shriner’s Hospital for Children.
