Samuel Steward

Samuel B. Steward, 84, died at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at Robings Manor in Brighton.  Born December 10, 1932 in Calhoun County, IL, he was the son of John and Nellie (Kinder) Steward.  Mr. Steward served in Germany with with U.S. Army from 1950-1953 and was a member of Beltline Christian Center in Alton.  He retired in 1993 from the mold shop at Owens Illinois Glass in Alton after 41 years of service and co-owned the Alton Bible and Book Store.  On June 20, 1953 he married the former Mildred Ruth Weaver in Jerseyville.  She survives.  Also surviving are two sons, Roger Steward of Godfrey and David (Tracy) Steward of Bethalto, two grandchildren, Travis Steward and Jennifer Camerer, four great grandchildren, Alexis, Brianna, Sam and Brooklyn, and one brother, John Steward of Donavan, MO.  Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Renae Michelle Steward, two sisters, and six brothers.  Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 12:00 noon Monday, September 18, 2017 at the Beltline Christian Center in Alton.  Reverend Todd Shaw will officiate.  Burial will be at Indian Creek Cemetery in Hamburg, IL.  Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.  Gent Funeral Home in Alton is in charge of arrangements.  Online guestbook and information may be found at www.gentfuneralhome.com
